Romain is a counsel at Derains & Gharavi specialised in international arbitration. He regularly acts as counsel in international arbitration proceedings and legal proceedings before French courts.
Romain has handled arbitrations conducted under the Arbitration Rules of the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), the Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC), the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) and the UNCITRAL Rules and governed by different legal systems such as French law, English law, Swiss law, Luxembourg law, Egyptian law, Gabonese law and Algerian law. Romain has also regularly represented clients in arbitration related litigations before French courts, including in actions aimed at obtaining annulment and enforcement of arbitral awards before French state courts, and acted as secretary of arbitral tribunals.
Romain’s arbitration practice focuses on commercial and Investor-State arbitrations involving the energy (oil and gas/electricity), automotive and aviation sectors, sales/services agreements, shareholders relationships, joint-ventures, M&A, construction projects and investment protection in general under international law.
Prior to joining Derains & Gharavi, Romain worked in the international arbitration and business litigation departments of a leading French law firm. He was also for over a year member of the executive committee of a French listed company.
Romain is admitted to the Paris and New York Bars. He obtained an LLM from Harvard Law School, a Master’s degree in international private and commercial law from Panthéon-Assas University and a Master’s degree in economic law from Sciences Po. He regularly teaches law at Sciences-Po Paris.
